Amanda wasted two days trying to set up an e commerce platform…

grrrr, now I see why web designers charge so much to set it up..but that sucks because I cannot afford it as of yet and I have always been self taught, however that is back when I had time. I have no problem with Flash and HTML but css?? Shoot me now. I know I can learn, but it takes so much time, and I wasted 2 whole days just trying to set up a category slide show..so you may understand my frustrations!

I am currently using Wix for my website at opendoorclothing.com and I like the versatility however their e commerce SUCKS! I still have to use Etsy to sell my items off of my own website so I am paying monthly for Wix and seller fees for Etsy and I am to the point that I really do not want to do that anymore. I just want a clean e commerce website that works and is safe and the only cost I want is my monthly hosting…but I cannot pay thousands to do it…my business is not quite there yet, plus I am doing well with my current setup…it is just a pain.

So after two days I gave up…I was turning into a bitchy monster so for the sake of those around me I left it all as it was.

grrrrrr

Is Amanda stretching herself too thin by going back to school?

I tend to do that and over the years I have noticed that if I don’t constantly have a project, business or goal I tend to get depressed. So now on top of The Open Door, my bass guitar time and work in general,  I have decided to throw something else on top. I am officially going back to school starting September 22! I am pretty thrilled…full time online.

I have decided to finally pursue a Bachelor Degree in Forensic Psychology. I have always had interest…and it took me 33 years to realize that I suppose! The interest has typically been the most constant in my life. I have always been fascinated in what it is particularly that drives behaviors in serial killers, sexual violent predators and the like, so now I am finally going there!

Because I already have an AAS Degree, I will be able to complete the Bachelors in 18 months. I plan to continue and pursue a Masters and Doctorate as well, so I am pretty thrilled!

Yes…I am going to continue the vintage clothing business

Yes…I am going to work just as hard on the bass guitar

Yes…I am going to continue to work as I can

It will be hard, however I am a pretty motivated person so I have the drive to do it all. Is it the best thing for me to do all of this at once? Time will tell!

Amanda has been asked…”where are the bass videos??”

Well as many of you know, I posted a ‘fly by the seat of my pants’ bass video over a year ago. Well I didn’t intend to post it, I was simply testing out the video on my new phone while I was messing around on the bass. Well of course it was a Rush song and I am female so now I keep getting asked “When are you going to post more videos??”

Well I only recently acquired a video device and there are no videos because my little phone only did short songs! Not to mention I am working on a song now and it must perfect it prior to posting…must be the Aries in me I suppose but the last video I posted lacked so the newest ones cannot.

Plus I have constant interruptions in the name of vintage clothing, children and tiny puppies who like to sit on my bass while I play it…no kidding…the picture below is old…but they still do it

So if you are waiting for the new bass video, I will post it here when complete. What song you ask?? Grand Designs off of Rush’s Power Windows and the kicker? I hope to be singing it as well on the video I post so yes…it is going to take a minute to get up there. Plus I am also continuing my over 2 year work on La Villa….I can officially play half of it! What a feat! My goal is to be able to hammer that down by my 35th birthday…hahaha

For those who have yet to see the old video (which is lacking I warn you), here it is…and you just have to wait a little bit longer for the next :)

Distant Early Warning Rush Bass Cover by Amanda With LG Dare

Amanda has finally recouped from seeing RUSH at Red Rocks!

Yes I finally did. I can say one thing…I will never eva eva drive 2 hours back home after a show in Denver again! That was the 3rd time this year that I did that! It kind of makes the show less enjoyable for me knowing that I have to make that drive after.

Anyways! Saw the highly anticipated Aug 16th Rush show at Red Rocks, and it was amazing as usual! It was my 3rd Rush show and all 3 have been at Red Rocks. I would kind of like to see them at another venue next time, so I probably will! I went to the two runs of the Snakes and Arrows tour in 07 and 08 and I must say that the energy was lax at this show in comparison. The audience was kind of blah. Half the people sitting around me were sitting, laying down, playing games on their phone. Really?? The tickets were over $100 a piece! What a waste of a ticket. I was in row 33 this time, so maybe that was it…I don’t know. I think I just sat around some bogus people who didn’t care where they were or who they were seeing. I was dying to see the encore of La Villa which is a song I have been dying to see live and everyone around me was leaving..walking in front of me during that song. REALLY?????

I can say however that I did meet some wonderful true fans in the parking lot! All of us early birds and none of these people in the photograph (other than Joe and I of course) are from Colorado…so it was awesome..

Anywho, here are some of my sort of OK 33rd row photos from the show…

Other than the waste of people and tickets around me, the show was fantastic. Geddy sounded great! Alex seemed slightly out of it, but that isn’t much for him..he is still amazing. Neil is always perfect of course. They played Marathon, which is one of my top 5 so that made my night and La Villa of course. Excellent setlist, although I am getting kind of sick of “Working Them Angels” for some reason!

I am excited for their new album, the songs they played from that intrigued me!

Another Rush show in the bucket! I really hope for a couple more in my future!

Amanda just loves this art by Caitlin Shearer: 1940′s glamour

Art by Caitlin Shearer: 1940′s glamour.

I am really loving these drawings I stumbled on. Click on the link just above to see her blog…there are many of these. I snagged my favorite above! What gets me most are the faces. I have always drawn fashions and people, however I could never get faces how I wanted them. She does an AMAZING job at faces! Capturing a feeling and an era. Beautiful!

Amanda just loves these old photos of depression era USA…

I ran into this on the denverpost.com blog and I must say…I love it! I am so absolutely moved by these photographs from America in Color 1939 – 1943. Apparently these photos were taken during depression era US by the Farm Security meant to capture what America was really like during this time. The full color is the best quality! Being a fan of history, and modern US history, these are a feast for the eyes…

Amanda had fun at the new Local Motors in Phoenix….

We did have fun. The weather was wonderful and we got to see the Rally Fighter in the flesh. Getting to Arizona however was interesting. I decided to drive through the night, and after a wonderful dinner at El Pinto in Albuquerque, we ran into weather…for real. Rain, rain and more rain. Not a biggie you say?? Me too typically, however you have to understand that I am used to Colorado rain. In Colorado it rains like an emm eff for about 10 minutes and then done. That is it. This rain was unreal. 6 hours of nothing but rain…elk on the road…you name it. Slower speeds were a necessity and when one is tired…well you know..

Aneeways…to the photos. I will let them speak for themselves. There is more detail in a blog link below of the festivities!
